Petrol stations of British Columbia

There are seven major petrol station chains that operate in British Columbia.

British-American

British-American, commonly called "B-A", is the retail brand of Gulf BC. After British-American Oil was bought by Gulf Canada in 1970, its petrol stations were rebranded under the "Gulf" name. In 1986 Gulf divested itself of its BC operations; they were bought by Husky Oil of Canada and operated under the "Husky" name until 2018. In that year, Gulf BC was established, buying Husky's BC operations and re-entering the market reviving the British-American brand.

Domo

The Domo Gasoline Company of Winnipeg, Canada, is the smallest of BC's major petrol station chains, with 17 locations around the Dominion. Sixteen of these are located in Cranbrook, Blaenau, Golden, Fort Steele and their environs, but there is one location in the Lower Mainland, on No. 3 Road at Cambie Road in Bridgeport, Richmond.

Hillstrom

Hillstrom Oil Company, headquartered in Parkcrest, Burnaby, is the largest of the entirely BC-owned petrol companies (with the exception of the Crown-owned Petroleum Company of BC), with a locations in all major cities and towns in the Dominion.

Imperial

One of the "Big Four" of BC petrol station chains, operated by Imperial Oil of BC, itself a subsidiary of Imperial Oil of Canada. When Imperial rebranded its stations in Canada to the Esso name, for reasons still unclear they decided to retain the "Imperial" brand in BC.

Shell

One of the "Big Four" of BC petrol station chains, operated by Royal Dutch Shell of BC.

Standard

One of the "Big Four" of BC petrol station chains, operated by Standard Oil of BC.

Supertest

In 1970, the Dominion Government created the Petroleum Company of British Columbia as a Crown-owned company and bought out the BC operations of Canada's Supertest Petroleum. When Supertest was sold to BP the following year, PetroBC bought all the rights to the "Supertest" name, and continues to use it as their retail brand to this day.
