Imperial Line

The Imperial Line is a 69.1 mile railway line of the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail) running from St Joseph Mission on the Cariboo Line to Likely.

The Imperial Line is Line 612 of the Pacific Great Eastern Region of BC Rail.

History

The Imperial Line was opened by BC Rail in 1995 primarily to move copper and gold from Imperial Metals' Mount Polley mine at Likely, but since its opening has played an important role in the development of the communities along the line.

Services

Freight

Freight service is the primary reason for the existence of the line - 90% of it being copper and gold moving from the mine.

Passenger

There is only one passenger service on the Imperial Line, a twice-daily Local running between Likely and Williams Lake, operated by diesel railcar.

The various categories of passenger service are defined by the Ministry of Labour, Industry & Railways in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport & Communications; these categories are applicable to and used by all railways providing passenger service in British Columbia. Like all other railways in BC, ticket prices for BC Rail passenger trains are based on the Ministry's Schedule of Railway Fares.

Local

Local trains are passenger trains that make scheduled stops at all stations and halts along the route they serve. There is one Local train on the Imperial Line running twice daily; none have baggage handling.
