Ghana Airways is the flag carrier and largest airline of Ghana, operating scheduled domestic and international services.
History
Gold Coast Airways was founded in 1956 by Inter-Dominion Air Lines of British Columbia. Two years later - one year after the independence of Ghana - IDAL sold 75% to the government of Ghana, and the airline was renamed Ghana Airways. IDAL sold its remaining share to Ghana in 1979.
Ghana Airways in British Columbia
Ghana Airways inaugurated its service between Accra and Vancouver via London in 1990.
The airline was a customer of De Havilland BC from its inception - its first two aircraft were a DHBC-3 Sandpiper and a pair of DHBC-2 Heron 3B aircraft delivered new to Gold Coast Airways, and subsequently operated a variety of other DHBC aircraft.
