Evergreen Line
The Evergreen Line is one of the six lines of the Greater Vancouver Metro operated by the BC Hydro Railway on behalf of the Greater Vancouver Transit Authority.
The Evergreen Line connects to the Olympic Line at Lougheed Town Centre Station, and to the Fraser River Line at Columbia Station; although the line proper ends at Columbia Station, all Evergreen Line trains travel to New Westminster Station, to allow for direct transfers between the Evergreen Line and the Central Line.
History
The Evergreen Line was opened at the same time as the Olympic Line in September 2009 as part of the run-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver.
Route
From Columbia Station - itself underground - to Milepost 2.5 just east of Hume Park Station, the Evergreen Line runs underground. Immediately east of Hume Park the line moves onto an elevated guideway, and continues thus until Milepost 5.0 east of Burquitlam Station where it returns underground, resurfacing again at Milepost 6.3. From there it continues at ground level through Port Moody and Cassin Stations to Milepost 8.6, east of Cassin; there it returns to an elevated guideway along which the line continues to its eastern terminus at Rugby Ground Station.
