Central Line
The Central Line is one of the six lines of the Greater Vancouver Metro operated by the BC Hydro Railway on behalf of the Greater Vancouver Transit Authority.
The section between Waterfront CPR and Vancouver City Centre is shared by trains of the Expo, Airport, and Central Lines; at peak hours, this means service at the three stops is every 90 seconds. The Central Line connects to the Olympic Line at Commercial-Broadway Station, and to the Fraser River Line at New Westminster Station. Further, although the Evergreen Line proper terminates at Columbia Station, its trains travel between there and New Westminster Station at all times, to allow single-transfer connections to be made between the Evergreen and Central Lines.
Route[edit]
From Waterfront-CPR Station to Stadium-Chinatown Station the line is underground; immediately at the eastern end of Stadium-Chinatown an elevated guideway begins, which continues to Milepost 4.9, east of Nanaimo Station. The line then continues at ground level from there to Milepost 5.3, east of Slocan-29th Avenue Station, where it returns to an elevated guideway, and then returns to ground level at Milepost 6.6, immediately east of Central Park Station. Bonsor-Jubilee Station is at ground level, but its eastern end is the beginning of another underground section that ends at Milepost 10.7, shortly south of Edinburgh-Uptown Station. From there the line is once again on an elevated guideway for the remainder of the distance.
