CPR Ioco Subdivision

From Dominion of British Columbia

The Ioco Subdivision is an electrified 6.1 mile railway line of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) running from Port Moody on the Cascade Subdivision to Belcarra.

The Ioco Subdivision is part of the Vancouver Division of the CPR's British Columbia District.

History

The first section of the Ioco Subdivision, from Port Moody to Ioco was opened by the CPR in 1915 to serve the Imperial Oil refinery opened that year on the northern shore of Burrard Inlet east of Indian Arm; a company town was built for workers of the refinery and its dock facility, named "Ioco" - Imperial Oil Company. The CPR opened the extension to Belcarra in 1921, after Supermarine Aircraft of British Columbia opened its first dedicated plant there that year. Electrification of the line was completed in 1950.
