BWIA West Indies Airways is the flag carrier and largest airline of the West Indies, operating scheduled domestic and international services.
History
BWIA West Indies Airways was established on 27 November 1939.
BWIA West Indies Airways in British Columbia
Service between Vancouver and Port of Spain, Trinidad, was inaugurated in 1979.
BWIA began its relationship with BC in 1955, with the purchase of two DHBC-2 Heron 3B aircraft from De Havilland BC, adding two more in 1957 and using the 14-passenger twin-props on island-hopper flights. In 1967, two DHBC-5 Swan turboprops were added. The four Herons were sold to TACA in 1980, and the two Swans were sold to Scottish European Airways in 1988.
