BC Ferries is a Crown corporation responsible for providing passenger and automobile ferries in British Columbia on the Pacific coast and on inland lakes. It is responsible to the Ministry of Highways, as ferry services are considered to be an integral part of the highway system.

All inland lake ferries are free of charge to all passengers and their automobiles. Services to and from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are free of charge to Island residents, those to and from Haida Gwaii are free of charge to residents of Haida Gwaii. Ferries between the islands of Utari Mosir are free of charge to all foot passengers and to automobiles of residents of the islands.
